I was skimming through Deuteronomy this morning, and randomly came across the words on debt forgiveness every seven years. It just so happens that this weekend is the time which Veronica and I are going to make our final payment on my student loan debt, and therefore be "debt free" less the mortgage. As it turns out, this weekend may have always been the appointed time we were to do it, not sooner, not later...
I started thinking about when it was that I graduated from college and therefore owed what I had spent. Exactly seven years ago, this weekend was my graduation ceremony. Technically, it was May 11th; we will pay debt off tonight or tomorrow morning, May 9th or 10th. So, we just made it before the seven year release would happen. Sallie Mae wouldn't do this of course, but still. Even though God is making provision for His people to escape the hole their in, it's pretty neat to think we paid this stuff off in the "divine repayment schedule" of seven years, and by a hair at that!
I thought this is wild considering it was only until yesterday's paycheck that we could even think to pay the final amount, and Veronica happens to be out of town for work, until this evening and requested I wait for her to make the final payment. I think about all the struggle to finally push through the remainder owed, especially this last 3,000 that didn't seem to want to budge no matter what, and then how it finally is able to.
Don't know what all this really means, but it was a "wow, cool!" moment when my mind linked this altogether this morning. The timing is incredible to me. It is a righteous thing for sure to pay off what you owe, but to realize you are just getting it in under the wire, is really something. God being God I suppose. And I give Him the glory!
