The Newest Member of Our Family

Hi everyone, meet Layla...

She is our new humane society pup. They believe her to be around 9-10 months old with some definite shepherd in her and ?? She is about 30 pounds right now, so probably won't get to much bigger or heavier then Shadow ever was, since she is nearing a year old. She seems to have a sweet personality, and very loyal. So far only loyal to me though... She has done well with the boys. She actually came from a home with a 3 and 1 year old, but the parents did not teach the boys how to treat the dog so she in turn acted roughly with them as they were her. Not a problem for us. Caleb and Benjamin respect the cat and have learned to carry over that to Layla. Ha, the cat... I think she thinks Layla can take a hike. We are working on it though. Layla just wants to play but the cat isn't having it. She had Veronica cornered last night at 1130p when she got home from work. It worked out that we just got her home and V had to leave for work. So the 8 hours with me was great but she had no time with Veronica, and seemingly forgot who she was. Based on some things I've read online about shepherds, I'm thinking what she is showing is protective behavior. Once she saw me with Veronica, her guard was let down. She is just like having a new baby. She plays awhile, and at times rowdy, then passes out for an hour. We just got home with some food, treats, and toys. Maybe she will stop snagging the boys stuffed animals now... Anyway, here is a couple pictures and maybe a video if I can get it to load.
